Results: Darius, Dionysus, Dynamite. Saturday: SP Systems (S), Williams Shipping (P), Raymarine (P), Gurnard (P) Saturday dawned bright and warm - perfect conditions for enjoying a pleasant lunch on your favourite Yacht Club terrace, but not so perfect for racing. The RYS, charged with trying to get two races in from a committee boat for the second Red Funnel weekend, had little choice but to postpone for almost 2 hours before a light South West 3 crept up the Solent. By now, it was too late to get a committee boat and twelve Darings out to a race area, so the 'W' flag was shown indicating a single shoreline start. Off the line in the newly flooding tide, Darling, Dionysus and Darius started very well taking the first tack into the shore. But the rocks off the green started to take their toll as first Darling then Defender hit and stuck fast. At SP Systems Dionysus led Darius, Ding Dong, Dido and Dynamite around the tide-swept mark and onto the reach to Williams Shipping where Darius slipped into lead. On beat up mainland shore in shifting winds, Dynamite overtook Dido to challenge for third, while for most it was a bit of a procession. Running back into Cowes, only the tricky tides sweeping the boats past Gurnard buoy remained, and Dynamite managed to slip past Ding Dong on the line to take third behind Darius and Dionysus. Being a shoreline start, the race does not count for the the Red Funnel, but is added to the RYS Solent Series instead. Dynamite needed about a 14 point win over Audax to take the May Series, and fortunately for Audax, there weren't fifteen boats finishing, so the May Series went to Audax with 41 points followed by Dynamite on 51 and Darling on 76. Sunday: Dull and windless. Mercifully we were put out of our misery at 1230 as there was clearly no prospect of breeze any time soon. And so it proved, as the first useable wind didn't materialise until after 1530.
