Race Report - Saturday 20 June
There's been a few things on since I last wrote, so I hope that you'll be patient before getting this weekend's race report! On 13 June, Darling won both shoreline races to take the Cory Cup. She was representing RORC, as befits Mike Greville's status as ex-Admiral. I watched the second half of the first race from on board Division Belle, who you may have observed having been launched just outside of the breakwater. While I was watching, Doublet was having a good race downwin

Regatta Report - Cowes Classics Regatta 2026
Cowes Classics Regatta 2026 was a windy affair, with racing taking place on Friday 5th and Sunday 7th June. The race format was windward/leeward racing, in SW breezes each day. The tide on the bank was modest and needed to be taken into account but the most significant tactical factor was generally the windshifts, which were often 30 degrees and sustained. On more than one occasion I remember staring in disbelief at the compass as we came out of a tack apparently 100 degrees

Race Report - 30-31 May
For the last weekend of the Ian Mackinnon (May) series, the Island Sailing Club ran an excellent weekend's racing for the Darings and the Dragons. Saturday 30 May I'm afraid I've not nominated anybody to write this one and I wasn't on the water myself - so commentary is limited! With all models saying no breeze until 2pm at the earliest, the ISC race committee allowed people to make something of their mornings by announcing AP over 2 the day before. This decision bore out on

Race Report - 23 May
On the 25th Anniversary of the John Dibben Memorial Trophy, the wind was looking light and challenging for Jo and Peter Chugg and their team from RORC. If the reader wonders why I have little recollection of the racing, it's because I found myself getting re-acquainted with the foredeck as Dauntless experimented with a more Etchells-like arrangement for stowing the pole upwind, more of which I may comment on at the end. Saturday 23 May Race 1 After a one-hour (and a bit) post

Race Report - 15-16 May
This weekend's race report comes from Dreamer, courtesy of Pietro Strada Saturday 16 May The conditions were ideal for some fun racing: the forecast was for wind up to 10kts from WSW with sunny spells. HW Portsmouth was 11:20 with a 4.6m spring tide, meaning a first in the fullest of the ebb. The RLYC was the organising club using the club’s starting line; two races planned for the day, with the first starting signal at 12:10. Race 1 Eight boats were on the starting line. The

Regatta Report - Bermuda International Invitational Race Week 2026
The Darings in Cowes sadly do not have an international class association, but share much in common with a class known as the "International One Design". The IOD is a design from 1936 which is loosely-based and scaled down from a "6 metre" yacht from Bermuda named "Saga". The Daring, of course, is a later design closely based on "5.5 metre" designs from the 1956 Olympics. In the 1980s two friends (Rick Thompson of the IOD fleet, and Philip Porter of Dauntless) determined that

Race Report - 2-3 May
This weekend's race report comes from Dynamite, courtesy of Charles Mathews and David Tydeman. With the forecast showing the first rain for weeks, and at times modest winds, the Race Committee from Cowes Corinthian Yacht Club were monitoring conditions closely in the lead-up to the first weekend of the season. In the end, all racing took place as planned with Destroyer and Diamond making an early impression on the results. A very promising 11 boats turned out for the racing o
